Aboveground Storage Tank Leak Manahawkin, Ocean County, New Jersey
Our client called to say their aboveground oil tank leaked and they needed Quick to do an oil tank clean up and an oil tank installation. The single-family residential property was located in Manahawkin, NJ. The aboveground oil tank was in the backyard of the property.
Luckily for the client, they noticed the leak almost immediately. Heating oil is dyed red and because there was snow on the ground, the red dye in the heating oil was very easy to see. Prior to Quick’s arrival onsite, the oil delivery company had removed the leaking oil tank.
Heating oil odors were noted by Quick’s crew when they arrived onsite to excavate the oil spill. Quick excavated the contaminated soil and loaded it into our dump truck for transport to a licensed disposal facility. Our licensed subsurface evaluator oversaw the oil tank remediation and directed the crew on where and how much to excavate. Once the oil cleanup was complete, soil samples were taken from the excavation and sent to an independent laboratory for analysis.
The excavation was backfilled with certified clean fill material. A total of 14 tons were removed cleaning up the oil spill. Quick then installed a brand-new aboveground storage tank. The NJDEP case was closed with a No Further Action declaration letter (NFA).
